Bombom de Aguardente DOC Lourinhã is a small handmade sphere weighing about 12 grams. A thin crisp dark-chocolate shell protects a liquid or creamy centre scented with the local wine brandy.

Intense cocoa meets the brandy's warm, vinous and lingering notes. The reference presentation is round and slightly irregular, often individually wrapped in gold foil, at truffle scale so the contrast between crisp and fluid is concentrated in one bite.

History

Sílvia Baptista created the Doce Lourinhã project after learning chocolate work in Caldas da Rainha. Seeking a product that could promote the territory, she chose Lourinhã DOC brandy, produced in Portugal's only demarcated region devoted exclusively to wine brandy.

The bonbon joined the national list of 420 Seven Wonders of Portuguese Sweets candidates in 2019 in the Pastry Cake category. The local atelier continues to make and sell it in several formats.
