pasteis.pt is a celebration of Portuguese sweetmaking: a living archive of 87 sweets, from the custard tarts of Belém to the ovos moles of Aveiro, from the travesseiros of Sintra to the Dom Rodrigos of the Algarve.

Portuguese pastry is among the richest in the world, born of the meeting between island sugar, the convents' abundance of egg yolks, and centuries of regional invention. We wanted to gather it all in one place — beautiful, careful and bilingual.

Every sweet has its entry: origin, history, taste, variations, where to try it and what to drink alongside. The recipes bring the classics into your kitchen. The map shows the delicious geography of the country. And the glossary keeps the words of this sweet art.
