Rochas do Pilar are small round cakes served in paper cases, with a dense moist yellow crumb of eggs, yolks, coconut and almond. A generous layer of icing sugar leaves the top nearly white while the sides remain golden and slightly irregular.
Their name links the sweet's texture and compact volume to Monte do Pilar, the great granite monolith dominating the Póvoa de Lanhoso landscape. Despite the sturdy appearance, the centre is tender and rich, with coconut and almond extending the flavour.

Created by a local pastry maker and produced for more than three decades, Rochas do Pilar became a typical Póvoa de Lanhoso sweet. The official gastronomy guide includes them in the municipality's traditional confectionery and records their ingredients, although the full method remains proprietary.
