Queijadas de Inhame das Furnas are small, low, round cakes served in paper cups and generously dusted with icing sugar. Unlike queijadas with a clearly defined pastry shell, these are moist and soft throughout, built around puréed taro grown in the wet meadows of Furnas.
The commercial formula is proprietary to its creator. Published descriptions identify taro, almonds, cinnamon and lemon zest; the tuber gives body and a restrained earthy sweetness, while almond and citrus bring the cake into Portugal's broader queijada tradition.

The reference recipe is a proprietary Caldeiras & Vulcões specialty. Home adaptations exist, but they should not be presented as the original formula.

Azorean black tea or espresso.
This is a contemporary specialty, not an old convent sweet. Furnas chef Paulo Mendonça Costa developed it to express local culture and ingredients. The first tastings took place in 2013, followed by a preview in January 2014 and the official launch at the Furnas Camellia Exhibition in February 2014. The national Queijada de Inhame das Furnas trademark was registered that year. Its present inclusion on the official Azores tourism portal shows how quickly a recent creation can become a local landmark.
