Galamares Golden Nuts

The creation date is unknown. According to historian Nuno Miguel Jesus in Jornal de Sintra, Galamares’ Casa das Nozes belonged to Mariana das Neves Pacheco. Her daughter Lídia das Neves Pacheco managed the business for many years; Leopoldina da Silva Vicente, who had begun working there in the 1940s, remained in charge until 1989. The establishment closed that year when the heirs sold the building.

Memories collected by the Alagamares Cultural Association place sales of the Golden Nuts on a bend beside the tram line and describe them as the village speciality. The local chronology also records a prize in England late in the 1980s, while Piriquita mentions an international prize without identifying it.

Jornal de Sintra says Piriquita recovered several Sintra sweets, including the Golden Nuts, and the producer continues to list its own version. The municipal regulation published in Diário da República formally recognises Nozes Douradas de Galamares among Sintra’s traditional confectionery but does not prescribe a recipe. A suggested relationship with Nozes de Cascais remains under investigation and is not treated as demonstrated provenance.
