History

Recent memory of the Paiões festivities connects the sweet with the village's annual celebrations at least as far back as the 1970s. After an interruption of roughly twenty years, the feast returned in 2017 and Lembrados returned with it; the parish council describes them as cakes that come out of the oven only during the festivities.

Recognition has since extended beyond the village. Sintra's Annual Confectionery Festival regulations, published in Portugal's official gazette in 2023, formally include Lembrados de Paiões among the municipality's recognized traditional sweets. In 2025 Maria Pereira's version received the municipal first prize in the Lembrados de Paiões category.
