Coquinhos are small coconut sweets baked in the oven. Teleculinária publishes a formula in which sugar and water are cooked to pearl stage, grated coconut is added and, after partial cooling, beaten eggs are incorporated; the mixture is shaped into balls, placed in cases and baked until golden.
Continente uses the name Bolinhos de Coco for an even more direct version: sugar beaten with eggs, grated coconut and ten minutes in the oven in individual cases. Both recipes confirm the shared core—coconut, sugar, eggs, small portions and oven baking—without requiring one fixed ratio or mixing technique.

- Sugar
- Eggs
- Water, in the syrup-based version
The documented recipes produce a coconut, sugar and egg sweet with an oven-gilded surface. The pearl-stage syrup method and the direct-mixing method may yield different textures; the sources publish no comparative tasting assessment from which to define one texture for every coquinho.
Teleculinária first prepares sugar syrup at pearl stage and shapes balls; Continente directly mixes sugar, eggs and coconut and portions the mixture into cases. Both methods are published under closely related names, with no evidence that one is the original recipe or belongs to a specific region.
The sources confirm the sweet in contemporary Portuguese recipe collections but do not map current producers or pastry shops. Check the house terminology: coquinho and bolinho de coco may describe this baked preparation, while beijinho may refer to the unbaked Brazilian sweet.
As an editorial suggestion, espresso or unsweetened black tea.
The consulted sources document the current recipe and names but identify no convent, inventor, place of creation, first date or route of transmission. This page therefore does not assign the coquinho a convent origin or construct a genealogy from other coconut sweets.
The identities must also remain separate. Continente classifies beijinhos—balls of condensed milk, butter and coconut, coated in coconut and decorated with a clove—as a Brazilian sweet. That preparation is not the oven-baked Portuguese coquinho represented on this page.
