Bolota de Chocolate is a soft dark Alentejo confection around four centimetres long and 50 grams in weight. Fine almond slivers enter a mixture of melted chocolate and fat, shaped by hand into the tapering form of an acorn.
The broad end, representing the cap and stem, receives thick sugar syrup and granulated white sugar. The contrast between the brown chocolate body and white tip makes the reference to the fruit immediately legible.

Intense soft chocolate with almond slivers and a crunchy sugar-coated tip.
Length, curvature and the amount of white sugar on the cap vary with the confectioner shaping it.
At confectioners and regional-product shops across Alentejo.
Coffee, black tea or acorn liqueur.
The sweet reportedly appeared around eighty years ago as a tribute to the Alentejo landscape dominated by cork and holm oaks. It turns the acorn, symbol of the montado, into a miniature confection eaten after meals.
