Mimo D’Ouro is a square or rectangular puff pastry created in Gondomar. Beneath its brittle, sugar-dusted shell sit two preparations: a small moist walnut cake bound with eggs, flour and Port, and a turnip preserve scented with lemon, cinnamon and orange zest.
The turnip is cut into fine strips, soaked with lemon and cooked with sugar until it becomes a preserve. For assembly, puff pastry encloses both walnut cake and jam in a single parcel. The result combines crisp flakes, nutty crumb and translucent strands of preserve—a contemporary use of ingredients closely associated with the Gondomar table.

Buttery crisp pastry, toasted walnut and a citrus-spiced preserve; the turnip tastes delicate and sweet rather than vegetal.
The ratio of walnut cake to turnip preserve may vary, as can its square or rectangular shape and the amount of icing sugar.
In Gondomar, particularly at municipal food events and from local producers involved in promoting the municipality’s sweets.
Coffee, black tea or a small glass of tawny Port.
This is a recent creation of O Forninho pastry shop in Gondomar rather than an old convent sweet. It already appeared in regional food itineraries during the 2010s and continues to be promoted by the Municipal Council: in 2026 it was presented alongside Coração de Gondomar as an identity sweet inspired by local products such as walnuts and turnips.
