Milhos Doces are a São João da Pesqueira dessert made from washed corn semolina, water, milk and brown sugar. The mixture cooks slowly with orange and lemon peel and a cinnamon stick until it becomes a thick, pale, gently granular cream.
It is served in small bowls or a broad dish. Once slightly cooled, the surface is decorated with ground cinnamon, often in a diamond lattice like rice pudding, highlighting the sweet's grain-based domestic origins.
