Fritos de Aljezur are fried sweet-potato sweets associated with Aljezur municipality. Odeceixe Parish Council documents fritos among the local desserts and states that they are coated with sugar syrup or honey, which is also produced in the area.
A University of Algarve dissertation explicitly confirms fritos, pastries and cake among Aljezur's sweet-potato sweets. The consulted open documentation does not publish the batter formula, proportions, binding ingredients or frying fat.
The photograph from the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Sweets candidacy shows large, handmade, irregular, wrinkled and folded forms. They are neither the half-moon sweet-potato pastries nor small smooth croquettes.
