Areias de Cascais — All-Butter Version
This published formula uses only butter, sugar and flour, coating the hot biscuits in sugar. It is a simple version consistent with the identity of Areias, not the sole recipe: Cascais FoodLab also publishes a municipal formula using butter, lard and lemon.

Ingredients
- 150 g / 5.3 oz, plus more for coating Sugar
- 250 g / 8.8 oz Butter
- 400 g / 14.1 oz Wheat flour
- as needed Butter and flour for the tray
Method
Heat the oven to 180°C / 350°F and grease and flour a baking tray.
Cream the butter with the 150 g sugar until pale.
Add the flour and knead only until the dough comes together.
Shape small balls, a little larger than a walnut, and arrange them on the tray.
Bake for about 15 minutes.
While still hot, roll the biscuits in sugar and let them cool on a rack.
