A regional food guide lists it alongside alfenim, camafeus, Conde da Praia pudding, orange sweets and Donas Amélias. A Diário Ilustrado report transcribed by the Évora District Archive includes ovos queimados among the desserts at a luncheon served in Estremoz on 23 December 1873. Eça de Queirós also mentions a platter of ovos queimados in The Illustrious House of Ramires, published at the end of the nineteenth century.
